Tony Hannon in the room he spent almost all of the remaining two years of his life in. It was smaller than a prison cell. He had lung cancer. It was repeatedly missed by a radiologist at University Hospital Kerry. Before he died, he asked the State to look after his family and hold people accountable. His pleas were ignored. And he will never see the justice he wanted. He died on April 15. But his wife Marcella, and his two children will continue to fight the State - representatives of which never knocked on Tony's door in Listowel, Kerry, and either apologized to his face or explained to his face exactly how the health service plans to learn from what happened if it won't even talk directly to him. He was very angry before he died - angry at what he was deprived of and how he was treated.
A photograph I took on today's front page of Tony Hannon just weeks before he died prematurely. #kerryseye #uhk #cancersucks #portraits_life
No offence to these gurus, but I hope this is the only time I get this close to the sort of gardai you'll be dealing with if exposed to bio hazards. #operationdarkrain #gardai #cork

  • State Papers 1985: Diplomatic dithering over search and rescue missions between Britain and Ireland cost lives
DIPLOMATIC DITHERING between Britain and Ireland cost the life of a canoeist on Lough Swilly in February 1985. It was also a contributing factor in the death of musician Phil Coulter’s brother Brian near the same spot months earlier. Had the protocols in place now been in place then, both men could have been saved. … Continue reading State Papers 1985: Diplo […]
  • State Papers 1985: FitzGerald told Thatcher: Give us joint courts or Agreement off
GARRET FITZGERALD warned he would not sign the Anglo Irish Agreement if Margaret Thatcher didn’t agree to a joint courts system. And he said that if she didn’t agree to judges from both sides of the border officiating in terrorism trials, he’d look like a ‘fool’ who had been ‘led up the garden path’. After … Continue reading State Papers 1985: FitzGerald tol […]
  • State Papers 1985: Kerry Babies detectives slammed by their own Commissioner
GARDA BOSSES are claimed to have criticised detectives weeks before a tribunal investigated their handling of the infamous Kerry Babies case investigation. In cabinet briefing notes from November 1984 and to be released by the National Archives on January 4 for the first time, the then Garda Commissioner is said to have described the actions … Continue readi […]
  • State Papers 1985: Singapore (but not Israel) could fly missiles over Irish airspace
THE STATE supported the transfer of military cargo by both Singapore and the UAE over Irish airspace but stopped the Israelis doing the same. National Archive documents due to be released on January 4, 2016, detail the hoops the Israelis had to go through to get permission to fly military transporter planes over Ireland on … Continue reading State Papers 198 […]
  • State Papers 1985 confirm: Ireland was warned by top Thatcher aide that Britain was bugging Irish diplomats
SECRET DOCUMENTS have confirmed for the first time that the British spied on Irish Embassy officials during the negotiations leading up to the Hillsborough Agreement. Garret FitzGerald was sent a warning about intelligence bugging in March 1985, some two years before he denied his diplomats in London were being spied on. Documents released by the … Continue […]
