Heron versus duck

If this gallery does not open right away, click on the headline . . .

Moments before these pictures were taken, the heron swooped down, and took the duck’s duckling from the water at Bray Harbour and flew off.

Oddly enough, the heron then came back with the duckling in its mouth. It flew back to a spot close to the duckling’s mother.

The mother tried her best and – at one point – managed to get the heron to drop her duckling. But the heron fought back, stayed near the duckling’s mother and after a fight – just ate it in front of its mother.

People shouted at me from the shore to stop it happening.
